WIP Wednesday… I mean Thursday

With the arrival of Baby Moo rapidly approaching, I’m committing myself to finishing up some projects that I’ve been working on for WAY too long.

Here are a few that are in the final stages.

First up, the Little Lulan Dress (formally known as the Little Sister Dress)…  I’ve finished all the knitting, and all I have left to do is put on the buttons and sew in the ends.

Next up, I have the very first knitted item that I have completed for Baby Moo (which is so sad, because by this point in my pregnancy with Lulan I had probably made her at least five or six knitted treasures)… an Owlie Sleep Sack!  I still need to block this, but here’s what it looks like pre-blocked.

It has tiny little cabled owls around the top of the sack… but I think it’s interesting how the whole thing kind of looks like an owl too.

I actually altered this pattern a little bit to leave the bottom open with a drawstring so we can get in to change diapers easily.  And because it’s made of wool, we can use it as a cloth diaper cover as well!

What are you working on this week?  I’d love to see, so please share!

Almost Mittens!

What’s that you say?  You need a pair of super cozy almost mittens to go out and collect your delicious yard eggs first thing on a nippy morning?  Well then, I’ve got just the pattern for you!

Or did you need something a little more playful?  Oh wait, it’s the same pattern!

Hold on, slow down… maybe you just need something to keep you cozy while you stand there wistfully staring out the window and indulging in a delightfully tantalizing day dream about, well, you fill in the details … yeah, that’s the same pattern too.

And here it is, in all its perfectly simple glory…

Almost Mittens

by Annie Soutter

1 skein Lamb’s Pride bulky weight yarn

US 10 1/2 straight needles

Cast on 30 stitches (more if you want them to be longer, less if you want them shorter).  I like to leave a pretty long (about 1/2 a yard or so) tail so that I can use it to sew the mitten up when I’m finished.

Knit 40 rows, or until the height of the work (I’m talking from bottom edge to top edge) is long enough to wrap around your hand at the base of your fingers.

Cast off, leaving about a 10 inch tail.

Sew up the mitten by using the longest tail first and sewing up to where you want the bottom of your thumb hole (for me, this is about 3 inches from the very top edge of the mitten).  Tie that string off.  Now, using the shorter (10 inch) tail, sew down the mitten to where you want the top edge of the thumb hole (for me, about 1 1/2 inches from the top of the mitten – leaving me a thumb hole that is about 1 1/2 inches).  Tie it off and weave in and hide both of your tails.

Viola!  You now have one Almost Mitten!  Now go make another one and start getting down to some kind of serious cozy business!

By the way, those are some amazing photos, huh?!  Many, many, many thanks to the superbly talented Lauri!  You can check out more of her work here and here.

Much love and happy knitting!

Annie

photo shoot!

Today I had my photo shoot with the fabulous Lauri, and I’m so excited about it I can’t even wait for the photos to get to me before I start writing about it!

She took photos of my recently finished slouch hat, magi-cowl, and almost mittens that are soooo much better than the ones I took.  Hooray!

Oh ya, and be on the look out for the patterns for all three… coming soon… and two of  them will be free!  Can you guess which ones?

So y’all just have to wait to see the beautiful shots she got… haha!
